What we paint

Painting services across The Rocks

Straight to it. We are a licensed painting crew working the oldest part of the city, where the buildings are older than the trade itself. Interiors, exteriors, strata blocks and shopfronts. Below is the full list, each one done with the substrate and the heritage of The Rocks in mind.

House Painting The Rocks

Full house repaints on the terraces, cottages and converted warehouses that make up the precinct. We prep properly, protect original detail and leave a finish built to last. No shortcuts on the boring bits.

Interior Painting The Rocks

Walls, ceilings, cornices and the fiddly period joinery you find in older Rocks homes. Low-odour systems where you are living in during the work. We move furniture, mask up and clean as we go.

Exterior Painting The Rocks

Harbour-edge exteriors take a beating from salt and wind-driven rain. We treat that as the main event, not an afterthought. Sound prep, weather-rated coatings and careful attention to render, timber and previously painted masonry.

Office Painting The Rocks

Offices and workspaces in the heritage buildings dotted through the area. We work around your people or after hours so nobody loses a day. Tidy, quiet, back to business the next morning.

Strata Painting The Rocks

Common property, apartment blocks and warehouse conversions. We handle staging, resident notices and access so the building keeps running while we work. Clear scope, clear pricing for the committee.

Commercial Painting The Rocks

Pubs, boutique retail and tourism-facing premises in a precinct that never really goes quiet. Durable finishes for high foot traffic and scheduling that keeps your doors open. We plan around your busiest days.

Epoxy Flooring The Rocks

Hard-wearing epoxy floor systems for garages, cellars, retail and light commercial spaces. Sealed, easy to clean and made to cope with traffic. We prep the slab first, which is where cheap jobs fail.

Pool Painting The Rocks

Repaints and re-coats for concrete pools using proper pool-grade systems. Surface prep, the right primer and a finish that stands up to water and chemicals. We tell you honestly if a pool needs more than paint.

Roof Painting The Rocks

Roof cleaning, repair and re-coating to protect against sun and salt air. We assess the roof honestly before quoting. If it needs work more than a coat, we say so rather than paint over the problem.

Where we work

The Rocks and Dawes Point

This page covers the historic core and its northern tip. Two pockets, one shared fabric of colonial sandstone and Georgian building. We keep our coverage tight here on purpose so the local knowledge is real, not a suburb list padded out for show.

The Rocks

Postcode 2000

Australia’s oldest European settlement site, dense with sandstone warehouses, Georgian terraces and narrow laneways carrying State Heritage Register listings. Most work here is conservation-minded: breathable systems, careful prep and approvals before any change to a listed facade. This is the kind of building we like working on.

Dawes Point

Postcode 2000

The northern tip of The Rocks, tucked under the southern approach to the Harbour Bridge. Same colonial sandstone and Georgian character, same harbour exposure. We fold Dawes Point into our Rocks coverage because the buildings, and the way you look after them, are one and the same.

How it works

Three steps, no surprises

We keep the process short. You know what happens, when, and what it costs, before we start.

1

Free on-site quote

We visit, look at the substrate and the access, and talk through colours and timing. You get a fixed-price quote in writing. No call-out fee, and no pressure to say yes on the spot.

2

Prep and approvals

The part that decides the result. Sound preparation, the right primer and coating for the surface, and a check on any heritage or strata approvals needed before we touch a listed facade.

3

Paint and clean up

We paint to the agreed scope, keep the site tidy and do a walk-through with you at the end. Nothing left behind but the finish. Simple.

Booking, quotes and cover

The practical questions first

The things people ask before they book. Straight answers, no runaround.

Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. There is no call-out fee to come and quote your job in The Rocks. Quotes are free and fixed-price, so the number we give you is the number you pay for the agreed scope. No hidden extras added later.
How do I book a painter in The Rocks?
Two ways. Call us on 0423 019 087, or fill in the quote form on this page with your suburb and the work you need. We reply within 2 business hours during our operating hours, Monday to Saturday.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold painter and decorator licence 315254C and we are fully insured. Public liability cover details are available on request before work starts, so the building and everyone in it is covered.
How much does a painter cost in The Rocks?
It depends on the size of the job, the condition of the surfaces and the access, which in the older Rocks buildings can be tight. We quote a fixed price after seeing the work, with no call-out fee and no hidden charges. Heritage prep can add to a job, and we explain that upfront rather than surprising you.
What paint brands do you use?
We use premium trade-grade paints suited to each surface, and for heritage substrates we choose breathable systems rather than whatever is cheapest. If you have a brand or colour you prefer, tell us and we will work with it.
When can you start, and what hours do you work?
We work Monday to Saturday, 6am to 6pm, and we are closed Sundays. We give you a realistic timeframe before starting rather than a rushed guess. For commercial and hospitality sites we can schedule after-hours to keep your doors open.
Do you give fixed-price quotes?
Yes. Every quote is fixed-price for the scope we agree, so you are not exposed to an hourly meter running. If the scope changes once we open up a surface, we talk to you before doing anything extra.

What sets the work apart

Painting built for a heritage precinct

The Rocks is not a standard repaint market. Here is where our approach differs from a general painting crew.

01

Heritage building painting

The precinct holds a serious concentration of early colonial and heritage-listed buildings. We treat repainting a listed terrace or historic cottage as conservation work: gentle preparation, reversible where it matters and consent checked before we start. Old fabric deserves care, not a quick coat.

02

Sandstone-adjacent substrates

Around original sandstone you find timber joinery, ironwork, render and previously painted masonry. Those are what we paint. Original stone and face brick usually should be left bare and breathing. We use breathable, substrate-appropriate systems and say no to painting stone that should not be painted.

03

Pubs and heritage shopfronts

Historic hotels, boutiques and tourism-facing premises sit right in the visitor precinct. We paint detailed shopfront joinery in durable finishes and schedule low-disruption work, often after hours, so a Friday night is never lost. Foot traffic stays, mess does not.

Harbour-edge exposure is the constant here. Moisture, humidity and wind-driven rain work on historic substrates all year. NSW heritage guidance even uses The Rocks as a case study for preparing heritage properties for changing weather. We build moisture management into prep and coating choice, so the finish lasts on a harbour front, not just on paper.

Bobby did an absolutely fantastic job painting the gutters, fascia and eaves of my home. His attention to detail was top-notch, from the thorough sanding to the careful application of primer and weather-resistant coats. He even coordinated with my neighbours so both sides of our semi-detached house match perfectly. Highly professional, trustworthy and a beautiful finish.

On heritage work the rule we hold to is simple. Prep it right, use coatings the building can live with and never paint something that should be left bare. If a job needs a heritage consultant or council sign-off first, we say so.

Heritage and local questions

Painting an old building in The Rocks

The questions specific to a heritage precinct. This is where a general painter and a heritage-aware one part ways.

Do you paint heritage-listed buildings in The Rocks?
Yes, and it is a big part of what we do here. We approach a listed terrace or historic cottage as conservation work: gentle preparation, breathable coatings and respect for original detail. Where approvals are needed, we make sure they are sorted before we start.
Do I need approval before painting a heritage property in The Rocks?
Often, yes. Changes to a heritage-listed facade or a property in a conservation area can need development consent or heritage approval. Rules vary by listing, so we help you identify what applies and recommend confirming with the City of Sydney and Heritage NSW before any external change. We will not race ahead of an approval.
Should original sandstone be painted?
Usually not. Original sandstone and face brick are generally best left bare so they can breathe, and painting them can trap moisture and cause real damage over time. We will tell you that honestly, even when it means less painting for us. We focus on the joinery, render and previously painted surfaces instead.
What coatings suit historic substrates near the harbour?
Breathable, substrate-appropriate systems, chosen for the surface rather than a one-size coat. On old lime-based or porous substrates that means letting moisture move rather than sealing it in. Near the water we also weight the choice toward salt and weather resistance.
Do you cover Dawes Point?
Yes. Dawes Point is the northern tip of The Rocks, under the Harbour Bridge approach, and it shares the same colonial sandstone and Georgian fabric. We cover it as part of our Rocks work because the buildings and the care they need are the same.
Can you paint pubs and shopfronts with minimal disruption?
Yes. For historic pubs, restaurants and retail in the visitor precinct we schedule around trade, often after hours, and use durable finishes made for high foot traffic. The aim is simple: your doors stay open and the finish holds up.
What other areas do you cover?
This page is for The Rocks and Dawes Point 2000. For painting across the wider city centre, see our Sydney CBD painting page, or call 0423 019 087 and we will sort out the right crew for your suburb.
