Decorative and specialty paint finishes in Sydney
Some walls deserve more than a single flat colour. Decorative finishes add texture, sheen and character, from soft mineral limewash to metallic shimmer and raw concrete looks, all applied by hand to suit the room.
Sydney Paintmasters is the decorating side of a painting business. We create feature walls and specialty finishes that lift a space, then back them with the same careful preparation and tidy work you would expect on a full repaint.
This page is the home for our decorative work. For hand trowelled lime plaster in particular, we have a dedicated venetian plaster service as well.

The decorative finishes we create
A range of specialty finishes for interiors and selected exteriors, matched to your colours and the feel you are after.
Limewash
A breathable mineral finish with soft, cloudy movement. Timeless on interior feature walls and suited to selected exteriors.
Venetian and polished plaster
Hand trowelled lime plaster with a stone like polish. See our dedicated venetian plaster service for this finish.
View venetian plasterMetallic and pearl
Tinted metallic and pearl finishes that shift with the light, ideal for feature walls, bars and reception areas.
Faux concrete and microcement
A smooth, raw concrete look for a modern, industrial feel without the weight of real concrete.
Textured finishes
Rolled, sponged and trowelled textures that add depth and hide imperfections on tired walls.
Feature walls and colour
Considered colour and accent work that makes one wall or zone the focus of the room.
Limewash painting
Limewash is one of the most popular decorative finishes we are asked for, and for good reason. It is a mineral paint that soaks into the surface rather than sitting on top, giving a soft, matt, slightly cloudy look with real depth. As the light changes through the day, the wall changes with it.
It suits heritage homes and modern interiors alike, and works on interior feature walls as well as selected exterior surfaces such as render and brick. Because it is breathable, it is a natural fit for older Sydney homes where trapped moisture can be a problem.
We prepare the surface properly, apply limewash in the traditional way and seal it where the location needs added durability, so you get the look without the flaking that comes from a rushed job.

Where decorative finishes work best
Decorative finishes are about focus. We use them where they will be seen and enjoyed.
Living and lounge
Feature walls behind the sofa, fireplace or media unit.
Entries and hallways
First impression walls that set the tone for the home.
Bedrooms
Bedhead walls and calm, textured backdrops.
Hospitality and retail
Bars, reception areas and display walls that need to stand out.
Colour, samples and application
Decorative work is personal, so we take the time to get the look right before we commit it to your wall.
Consult and choose
We talk through the look, the room and the light, and narrow down finishes and colours.
Sample boards
We prepare samples in your chosen colours and sheens so you can approve them in place.
Prepare the surface
Walls are repaired and base prepared so the finish sits well and lasts.
Apply and protect
We apply the finish by hand and seal it where the room needs extra durability.

Painting and decorating done properly
Decorative finishes are only as good as the preparation and the trades behind them. As painters and decorators, we handle the whole job, from filling and sanding to colour, feature work and a clean final finish.
