Venetian plaster, applied by hand across Sydney
Venetian plaster turns a flat wall into something with real depth. Layer on layer of lime based plaster is trowelled and burnished until the surface reads like polished stone, catching light and shadow in a way paint never can.
Our applicators work with genuine lime plasters and traditional trowelling, so you get the movement, sheen and stone like character the finish is known for. We prepare and sample every job first, then apply it wall by wall in your Sydney home or business, keeping the site clean as we go.
Whether you want a soft polished feature wall in a living room, a marmorino finish in an entry, or a sealed venetian surface in a bathroom, we match the product and sheen to the room and the look you are after.
What is venetian plaster?
Venetian plaster is a wall finish made from slaked lime and finely ground marble or stone. It is built up in thin coats with a steel trowel, then burnished so the fine particles compact and take on a natural sheen. The result can range from a smooth, almost wet looking polish to a soft, cloudy stone texture, all created by the material itself rather than a printed pattern.
Because it is mineral based, a true lime venetian finish is breathable and hard wearing. It has been used on walls for centuries and still suits both heritage rooms and clean modern interiors in Sydney today.
People use a few different names for finishes in this family. Polished plaster and stucco describe the smoother, higher sheen looks. Marmorino is a slightly more textured, matt to satin marble finish. Travertino gives a raked, stone like texture. They share the same lime base and hand trowelled method, so we help you choose the one that fits your space during the sample stage.
Venetian and polished plaster finishes we apply
One material family, several distinct looks. We apply each of these across Sydney homes, apartments and commercial spaces.
Polished venetian plaster
The classic high sheen, stone like polish for feature walls and refined interiors, built up and burnished by hand.
Marmorino
A softer matt to satin marble finish with subtle cloud and movement, popular for entries, living spaces and bedrooms.
Travertino and textured
A raked, natural stone texture that adds tactile depth, ideal where you want character rather than a mirror smooth surface.
Wet area and bathroom venetian
Sealed lime finishes suited to bathrooms and splash zones, giving a smooth stone look without tiles or grout lines.
Metallic and decorative
Pearl and metallic tinted plasters for a contemporary shimmer on feature walls, bars and reception areas.
Venetian render and exteriors
Lime based render finishes for suitable exterior walls and facades where a stone like look is wanted outdoors.
Rooms and walls venetian plaster suits
Venetian and polished plaster is a feature finish, so it earns its place on the walls people notice most.
- Living room and lounge feature walls
- Entries, hallways and stairwells
- Bathrooms and powder rooms, sealed for moisture
- Bedroom and bedhead feature walls
- Kitchen and dining feature areas
- Reception, hospitality and retail interiors
If you have a specific wall in mind, tell us the room, the light it gets and the look you are drawn to, and we will recommend a finish and sheen that will hold up in that space.
How we apply venetian plaster
The finish lives or dies on preparation and patient trowelling. Here is how a typical Sydney project runs.
Consult and sample
We look at the wall, discuss the look and prepare sample boards in your colours and sheens for sign off.
Prepare the substrate
Walls are cleaned, repaired and base coated so the plaster has a sound, even surface to grip.
Trowel the coats
Thin coats of lime plaster are trowelled on and left to cure, building the depth and movement layer by layer.
Burnish and seal
The surface is burnished to bring up the sheen, then sealed or waxed where the room needs added protection.
What venetian plaster costs in Sydney
Venetian plaster is a hand applied, multi coat finish, so it sits above standard painting for the same wall. The honest answer on price is that it depends on the wall and the finish, which is why we quote each job rather than publish a flat rate.
The main things that move the price are the size and number of walls, the finish and sheen you choose, how many coats it needs, the condition of the existing surface, the colour, and access to the area. Sealing for wet areas and detailed cutting around joinery add time as well.
Tell us the room and the look and we will give you a clear written quote, with the product and number of coats set out so you can compare it properly.
What shapes your quote
- Wall area and number of feature walls
- Finish type, marmorino, polished or textured
- Number of coats and colour depth
- Condition and prep of the existing surface
- Sealing for bathrooms and wet areas
- Access, ceiling height and site conditions
